"Mom... it's October, right?!"

Taylee has been waiting for me to flip the calendar from September to October! The month of October was her month to choose if she was going to go on a date with Mom or Dad. She didn't want to waste any time! She chose the first Saturday of the month... AND her Mommy!
We have a few rules for our "dates."
It's only one day out of the month and it has to stay around $15.00 They get to choose how that money is spent. (miniature golf, a movie, lunch, etc.)

This was our conversation as we were heading out...
me - "Where would you like to go on your special day?!"
Tay - "Well, I really want a new toy. Shopping is an activity, right?"
me - "Well, I guess it is, but our limit is only $15.00 for the day!"
Tay - "Perfect! I brought my wallet. You buy half of my toy and I'll buy the other half. Then we'll go out for ice cream!"
me - "If that will make you happy, then that's what we'll do!"
Tay - "OH MOM! You're the best Mom EVER!"

She was on cloud 9 with her mini pet shop toy! When she is happy... you can sure see it and feel it! She was all giggles! Love her!

It sure feels good to be the "Best Mom EVER!"

Hello! I just found your blog for the very first time tonight and spend a long time reading through it! Your post in oct of 2008 brought me to tears where you are mentioning your son being diagnosed with DS after you suspecting it after a few months.

Tomorrow morning I'm bringing our 18 mth old daughter for a blood test to check for down syndrome. We adopted her 6 mths ago. (I'm wondering if she might have mosaic down syndrome based on the fact that her foster family and social workers all wondered if she had downs right away but her pediatrician said no...just by looking at her.)

She has about 8 "red flags" that concern me...all things that on their own would be completely normal for someone yet when combined really make us wonder if it's something else. My doctor here is not sure it is downs but says it could be a number of different chromosomal issues. I'm not sure. It's all still so new to me but I wanted to thank you for you blog! I will be checking in again! Thanks!

What a great idea to "consistently" have a date with one of your children. We always have good intentions and then get busy with life and it never seems to happen as much as we'd like! This will serve as a good example for me to just do it! I like that each child of yours has a month so they will remind you when it's their turn.

I love it, and I love that toothless smile! We do that too. We have special nights. One child at a time gets to go out with Mom. We do it at their birthdays too. It has really become a special tradition. I put a limit on how much we spend too. So funny we do such similar things. It is

I love the date night idea, I might have to copy cat you in upcoming years. This must mean a lot to your kids for Taylee to already have everything planned out.

That is great to put a limit, especially when you have teenagers. :-) You are a great Mom and you have great kids.

What a smart girl! She brought half her money so she got ice cream too. My boys would never have thought of that. They aren't as cute as her either!
