My first visit to the Down syndrome clinic!

In the past several months, we have met many families with children with Down syndrome. When we tell people that we found out that Justin had Down syndrome at 6 months of age, lots of advice would pour in... which we are thankful for! The first few months I was glued to the internet. I honestly didn't know where to turn for information! The more people I meet, the more I learn! I feel I still have a long way to go, but I wasn't sure if I knew enough. I wasn't sure if I was doing enough for him. I was asked by many people if we've ever been to the Down syndrome clinic at Primary Children's Medical Center. Actually, I never knew such a place existed! I was told if anything, it was just great to go for information. They answer questions and give suggestions. I made the appointment!

The staff there is fabulous! I was given more information in that short hour than I could have possibly learned on my own! We have been so nervous thinking that he wasn't getting enough therapy. I felt maybe we were denying him things that were critical for him to progress. (He does have Early Intervention twice per month.) The Dr. said we are doing a perfect job! He is very happy with what he is doing, how he is communicating, and how much he is loved! They answered our questions, asked us questions, and wanted to be sure we felt 100% at peace with any concerns or questions that we had before we left. We left there feeling fantastic! We have a sweet little angel in our home. We couldn't ask for more!

Yes you do have a sweet little Angel in your home...and yes he certainly is LOVED by you all! You are an amazing mom and you are doing wonderful with him...you know I have been all wrapped up in therapists as well, but in the end...it is the family that does all the teaching! It is the family that helps him day to day...so you are his best helper/therapist/teacher there is! Justin is doing great and I am so glad you had a chance to go to the clinic!
I am getting nervous with the CA state budget cuts...one of which is early intervention I just heard on the news...so who knows how long therapies are going to be covered here???? We have been so fortunate being offered all the therapies as I have learned a lot from them...but if they had to cut it all...I would do exactly what I am doing everyday with Brayden and know that he is going to succeed because I have given it my all!
He is so darn cute standing there for the pics! I so wished we lived closer to you guys!...but we don't so we will have to wait until you come to Bakersfield again...lol...talk to you soon.

That's wonderful you had such a good visit! Justin is such a cutie!

I'm planning on taking Ruby to the Down syndrome clinic here at the Children's Hospital in Dallas ,it encourages me that your visit went so well.

Emily, from seeing Justin in pics and hearing what he is doing , it was obvious to me and most likely to us all out here that you and your family are beyond in love and were doing everything right. Justin is just progressing so well and is so happy!
But, getting the thumbs up from the clinic and the pat on your backs that you deserve must make you feel confident that your on the right track. Keep up the good work!!!

Oh he is just so stinkin' cute! Yes, you are doing so wonderfully with Justin, just look how happy he is! I had no idea you found out he has Down syndrome when he was 6 months old! That is awesome, I love hearing everyone's stories! I will have to look into the clinic, I haven't ever gone there either!

That is awesome! I don't know why EI and doctors don't give us this information. There are so many resources that they don't share with us. Shouldn't they be required to have a list of these resources to hand out. I hear things here and there but what am I really missing?

look at him standing like a big boy. So Denise is coming, what should we do? Should we get together at someones house? I was hoping to have my backyard more done, but we can have it here. Let me know.

Yep...I am coming to UT!!! Just don't know exactly when yet! And I could care less about the backyard situations as long as I can just see all of you!!! Did you use your insurance to go to the Ds clinic? We have one here in San Diego but I haven't been there yet as I have been worrying more about the blood issues right now. Just curious if your pediatrician had to refer you there or what. I can't believe how good Justin is doing with his standing. See you soon!!

so glad that you were able to go and be reassured at what you are doing. Justin seems like a total sweetie and I admire you for your strength, courage, and your positive attitude. I hope he continues to do great.

Do you mind emailing me a contact number to the clinic. My husband and I have been wanting to make an appt. We called some number at Primary Childrens but it wasn't the right one. We would love to take Sam down.

Justin looks so big standing there. He was so much younger when I saw you. I can't believe how big he is getting. I had no idea about that clinic at PCMC either.

I never knew that anything like this existed and Bode is almost 5! Is it too late to take him? Did your insurance cover the appt? He is seriously so cute...I love that smile!
